Summary

Three countries, two flagship trains, one unhurried way to travel

Britain invented the railway, and its luxury sleeper trains remain among the most characterful in the world. A UK rail holiday trades airports and motorways for drawing-room comfort: you unpack once, wake beside a sea loch or a Cornish estuary, and step off for a private tour before lunch is served back on board.

The Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train, opened England and Wales to overnight luxury rail for the first time. Its three-night routes run west to Cornwall, into Wales for Snowdonia and the Pembrokeshire coast, and north to the Lake District, with interiors by Albion Nord, a wellness suite and menus led by British produce.

The Royal Scotsman has been the benchmark for Highland rail travel since 1985. Departing Edinburgh, its itineraries run from two nights to a seven-night Grand Tour, calling at castles, distilleries and remote west-coast harbours, with observation-car views over the Glenfinnan Viaduct and Kyle of Lochalsh.

At The Luxury Train Travel Company, we book both trains directly and advise on cabin grade, route and departure date, plus the hotel stays either side of your journey.
